eie students awarded STEPS scholarships

A number of European Institute of Education (eie) students have been awarded scholarships through the Strategic Educational Pathways Scholarship Scheme (STEPS). The scholarships were awarded recently during a ceremony presided by the Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and by the Minister of Education Dolores Cristina.

The students will be reading for different degrees at Masters level. Students will be reading for an MSc in Occupational Psychology, an MSc in Educational Leadership, or for a Master in Business Administration at the University of Leicester.

Another student will be reading for a Master in Business Administration at the Swiss Institut Universitaire Kurt Bosch (IUKB).

Both the University of Leicester and IUKB are recognised institutions and the Malta Qualifications Recognition and Information Centre (MQRIC) has given their Masters degrees a Level 7 referencing.

STEPS regulations stipulate that in order for a student to be eligible to obtain the financial grant, he has to read for a degree that is equivalent to either a Masters degree studies equivalent to EQF Level 7 or a Doctoral degree studies equivalent to EQF Level 8.

Mr. Antonello Cappitta, the President of eie, welcomed the students’ successful bid to be awarded STEPS scholarships. In a statement he said that this proves that the degree programmes offered by eie are all recognised by the Malta Qualifications Council.

eie is licensed by the Ministry of Education and offers further and higher education. Apart from the universities mentioned above, eie’s portfolio includes the distinguished Cranfield University School of Management, the Tbilisi Saero Universiteti Metekhi, the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

STEPS, part-financed by the European Union European Social Fund (Cohesion Policy 2007-2013), offers scholarships for candidates looking to pursue studies at Masters and Doctoral level. Applications for STEPS scholarships will re-open on 1 November and will remain so till the 15th of January 2010 at noon.
