{/slide}{slide= Professor Erekle Astakhishvili, Ph.D.}

Professor Astakhishvili is a professor of history and sociology. He graduated from the “Tbilisi State University” in Georgia, and worked at the State Hermitage in St. Petersburg. During the 1990s, whilst working at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago (USA), he was a member of the production team of the “Assyrian Dictionary” published by the same university. He also participated as a member of the German archeological expedition in Syria. Professor Astakhishvili is a member of American Oriental Society, and the European Standing Conference of the History Teachers (EUROCLIO). He is also the secretary general of the National Committee of Georgian Historians and was recently awarded an order of honour of Georgia for “outstanding contributions in the sphere of higher education”. Professor Astakhishvili  has been actively involved in various international university management projects and lectures at top-rated higher educational institutions in Georgia,  the UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, Greece and Malta.

Mr. Bezzina obtained a BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Malta and an MBA in General and Strategic Management from the MSM (The Netherlands). Carrying over ten years experience in IT business management, he presently occupies the role of Information Technology Manager at Dedicated Micros (Malta) Ltd., a leading electronics manufacturing company, where he is responsible for implementing the IT strategy and managing the IT department. His major achievements in the IT industry have been characterized by successfully managing a variety of software engineering and IT projects in both servicing and

manufacturing industries. His primary interest is the application of informationtechnology in manufacturing and logistics.

In the course of his postgraduate studies, Mr. Bitar assisted well-known individuals like Prof. Peter Warr with his latest edition of Psychology at Work. Mr Bitar is a qualified user of ability tests (Level A) by the British Psychological Society. His main areas of specialisation are organizational change and development, human resource development, and organizational assessment and benchmarking.

Mr. Borg Ellul graduated from the University of Leicester at Certificate Level in Management Studies in 2001 and then progressed towards the Diploma in Management studies in 2003. In year 2005, he successfully completed a Masters degree specialising in Security and Risk Management also with the University of Leicester. Duncan holds a diploma of the Chartered Insurance Institute and is a member of ASIS International. Currently he is an Insurance executive Global Capital, a leading firm in financial and insurance services. His main interests are Managing Risks and Security, Insurance, Managing People and Organizations, Motivation, and Total Quality Management.

  {/slide}{slide= Mr. Anthony De Bono, Chairman Emeritus and perpetual Ambassador of the CTO}

Mr. De Bono is an international telecommunication consultant and currently holds the position of chairman Emeritus of the Commonwealth Telecommunication Orgonization (CTO) and the perpetual Ambassador of the CTO. He is also the General Manager for International Affairs of the Malatacom Group. From 1983-1997 he was CEO of Telemalta Corporation engaged with a brief to modernise the telecommunications infrastructure of the Maltese Islands and to project Malta in International Telecommunications Arena. From 1992-2002, Mr. De Bono served as Maltacom - Chairman and was appointed as Deputy Chairman and Chairman of Maltapost, the national postal services. In 2003 he held the position of Chairman of the European Telecommunications Network Operators (ETNO), the strongest lobby for the industry with the European Commission in Brussels.

Mr. Cappitta is a chartered accountant with years of experience at boardroom level. He graduated in accounting from the Malta Institute of Accountants and in financial accounting from the Institute of Financial Accountants (Kent, UK). He is a member of the Chartered Management Institute (UK) and holds a Certified Public Accountant warrant. Mr. Cappitta obtained a Masters degree in Business Administration and is currently reading for a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA). Mr. Cappitta holds directorship positions in other companies. His main areas of expertise are leadership, international finance and corporate finance. In 2006, he was appointed as President of the European Institute of Education, which post he holds till date.

Dr. Cardona obtained a doctorate degree in law from the University of Malta and a Masters degree in International Maritime Law from the International Maritime Law Institute of the United Nations. He is a partner in a leading law practice and presently practices criminal law (Inferior & Superior Courts). Dr. Cardona was a visiting lecturer of Law modules within the European University (Montreux Switzerland) MBA programme during the university’s tenure in Malta between 2005 and 2008. He is also a Shadow Minister and a Member of Parliament.

Mr. Cilia is an Assistant Director of Education for Development in the Malta Education Division with 33 years teaching experience at various levels including University. In his position Mr. Cilia has considerable experience in Human Resource Management and lectures Master degree students in areas related to Human Resources.

Mr. Debattista is a banker by profession as well as a freelance management training consultant. He has been employed with Bank of Valletta Plc since 1985 and has served in various roles within its retail branch network. During his banking career he specialised in business development and managing customer service. He has extensive experience in managing people and in 2006 he joined the Training and Consultancy Unit of the bank, occupying the role of Manager Training Projects. His role consists of developing, facilitating and delivering various training programmes as organised by the bank for its 1500 employees.

Alfred has been conferred with the ACIB (UK) Banking Diploma in 1996 and with the Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Malta in 2001.  He has been lecturing Business Management and Managing Organisations related topics at various institutions, both locally and abroad since 2001.  Presently he is a part-time trainer at The IFS School of Finance and at the European Institute of Education on the IUKB MBA program. For 3 years he has also lectured at The University of Malta at the Bachelorate level. Additionally, he has experience in delivering training and consultancy in the private sector, primarily in the marketing and retail services sectors.

Alfred is a regular contributor to "The Executive", a Maltese business journal, targeted for middle and top managers.

Mr. Dimech graduated from the University of Malta at Diploma Level in Management Studies in 2001. He successfully completed his Master in Business Administration specializing in Marketing at the University of Leicester in 2006. Currently, Mr. Dimech holds the position of Business Development Manager at Heritage Malta, the national agency of the Government of Malta set up in 2002 under the provisions of the Cultural Heritage Act. The Agency is entrusted with the management of national museums and heritage sites and their collections in Malta and Gozo, including seven UNESCO world heritage sites.

She is currently a Marketing Executive at Lighthouse Communications Ltd, a leading corporate marketing communications agency.

Mr. David Galea is a Certified Public Accountant who has specialized in the field of General and Strategic Management. Throughout his career he has held an advisory position with one of the Big Four Audit Firms and has also formed part of senior management of key organizations in Malta. Mr. Galea was instrumental in developing a national competitiveness strategy as well as provided strategic advice and assistance to major companies in Malta in an effort to turnaround their operations.

Paul Gauci studied at the University of Malta where he graduated B.A. (Hons) Business Management in 1986 and has, since then, specialised in human resources training & development, continuing his formal studies through a Masters degree, being awarded a distinction in the M.Ed (Training and Development) course from the University of Sheffield, England in 1992.

He is a Chartered trainer and lecturer in management education and development with 20 years experience delivering training to various organisations in the public and private sectors. Paul Gauci has also headed Bank of Valletta’s Training & Consultancy Unit for seven years and delivered training projects both locally and abroad.

He is a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta in ‘Organisational Behaviour’; ‘Human Resource Management’ and ‘Human Resource Development’ on the MBA programmes. He also lectured on the Maastricht School of Management MBA Programme in the Netherlands and outreach countries. Additionally he has been a Chartered Institute of Financial Services (UK) Tutor in Management and Organisation of Financial Services on the B.Sc Financial Services programme organised by the University of Manchester/University of Malta for financial services personnel.

At the European Institute of Education (Malta), he lectures various subjects on the I.U.K.B.- Switzerland MBA courses as well as on BBA (Tbilisi National University "Metekhi"  -Georgia) Courses. His key topics are ‘Communications’; ‘Leadership’; ‘HR in Banking’: ‘Negotiation in Banking’, ‘Entrepreneurial Skills’ amongst others. Paul, is also a lecturer for modules within the CIM programme.

Between 2000-2006, he has served as Chairman of the Mediterranean Training & Development Committee of the Mediterranean Bank Network (MBN) and conducted training activities in all Mediterranean countries. Paul Gauci has been a speaker at conferences and training events in Europe, Africa and Middle East and has served as member of the European Savings Bank Group (ESBG) - Technical Assistance Providers Network (TAPN) and delivered training sessions on World Savings Bank Institute (WSBI) seminars.

Ms. Grech successfully completed an MBA program in 2003, from the University of Leicester, having specialised in the fields of marketing and IT communications. She is currently a director of Grech & Co, with responsibilities of internal auditing and administration management and lectures marketing and HR modules of the MBA and MSc programmes at EIE.

Ms. Gatt graduated in Sociology from the University of Malta in 2003. In the year 2006, she successfully completed a Master degree specializing in Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management at Keele University in the UK. Currently, Ms. Gatt has been appointed as a section secretary within the largest industrial trade union in Malta. She is responsible of a section which includes both private and public entities as well as subsidiaries of international companies based in Malta. Her main areas of interest are in the human resources development sector, the relationship between the employer and the employee at the place of work, collective bargaining and negotiations.

Ms. Lempereur lived and worked in a number of countries, namely, Libya, UK, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Brussels, and Malta. Her main areas of specialization are training and development, career counselling, work and well-being, and selection and assessment.

Mr. Micallef, presently occupies the position of Head of the ICT department of St. Michael Foundation, where he lectures in Computer Studies, Information and Communication Technology, Macromedia packages and Web Design . He has been instrumental in the introduction of the ECDL qualification as part of the schools curriculum and the setting up of a CISCO Academy at the school specializing in security. Mr. Micallef currently holds a 1st DAN grade in Judo. He assists Master degree students specialising in IT and Communications in their final stages of their MBA.

Mr. Pullicino, graduated with a Diploma in Management Studies (with distinction)and in 2001 he successfully completed his Master in Business Administration from the University of Malta. For these past few years he has been appointed to lecture the Organizational Behavior module and deliver Human Resource tutorials to Diploma in Management Studies and Bachelor of Commerce students respectively. During this period he has also been appointed to supervise and examine various theses (on Human Resources related subjects) that have been submitted by students as part fulfillment for the latter mentioned qualifications. Most of his students, obtained "Pass with Distinction" results.

Daniel Pullicino

Mr. Saliba holds a Master of Science Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Cranfield University, U.K. and a Diploma in Logistics from the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT).  For the past twenty seven years he was involved in warehousing and distribution activities in a leading German manufacturing plant based in Malta.  Mr. Saliba is presently involved in consultancy and training specialising in Logistics & Supply Chain Management.   
 
During the past six years Mr. Saliba lectured at the University of Malta and the European Institute of Education (Malta Centre) and MCAST.  He is an international assessor for students studying for the Advanced Diploma in Logistics & Transport through CILT(UK).  Andrew delivered talks at Cranfield University to prospective students and participated as a speaker and moderator in various conferences specialising in Logistics in Dubai.

Mr. Saliba is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Logistics & Transport (UK),  member in the Malta Institute of Management (MIM) and member of the Supply Chain and Logistics Group (Dubai).

Mr. Sammut currently works as a lecturer and as a prison psychologist within the CCF. He studied at the University of Malta and pursued his studies further at the University of Surrey specialising in Forensic Psychology. His main areas of interest are offender rehabilitation; the management of both violent and sexual offenders as well as their victims; various investigative techniques and ways in which psychology impacts on investigations; how mental illness impacts on crime and criminals; issues of law and psychology; assessing criminogenic needs and environments.

Mr. Triganza Scott, is a People Alignment consultant and an educator by profession. He is a part-time visiting lecturer at the Department of Education Studies and the Department of Sport and Leisure Studies in the Faculty of Education. Mr Triganza Scott has delivered courses within the Department of Public Policy in the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy and the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Education. He has previously worked on consultancy projects with Human Factors International in particular on Corporate Audits especially with merging organizations. He was Director and Company Secretary of Human Factors (Malta) and was responsible for the overall Business Development and Operations of the firm. He is a co-author of ‘Educational Leaders in the Making’ a book exploring the developmental and leadership pathways of educational leaders in Malta. Mr Triganza Scott is also a freelance HR consultant and an international trainer with the International Centre for Training and Development in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He has carried out various studies and international research collaborations in Organizational Psychology, Social Psychology, Educational Psychology and Economic Psychology, both locally at the University of Malta and with foreign institutions in Japan, Austria and USA.

Mr. Andrew Triganza Scott

Mr. Vincent Sladden graduated with a B.A. in Business Management (Hons) at the University of Malta in 1987. He started his career with the Malta Development Corporation, a government agency responsible for attracting foreign direct investment to Malta. Mr. Sladden initially formed part of the Corporation's Research Team, and then the Investment Promotion Team where he managed the United Kingdom, one of the Corporation’s key markets.
In 1990, Mr. Sladden was posted to London to manage the Corporations Overseas office. During the period he spent in London, he was very successful in establishing Malta's international image as a location for high value added manufacturing and service operations, as well as attracting a number of British manufacturing companies to set up facilities in Malta.  In 1993, he was appointed Marketing Manager, heading the Corporation's global operations.

Mr. Sladden read for his Master of Business Administration Degree, graduating in 1998 with a Summa Cum Laude. In 1998 he was appointed General Manager, Automotive Division of the Pater Group.  He is responsible for the core activity of the Group.

Mr. Sladden has significant experience at both the operational and strategic management levels.  This ensures that he is able to give academic concepts a practical application, an important factor in the business learning process.  His years of business experience have also allowed him to develop a proven core competence in marketing, management and strategic business planning.

Mr. Sladden lectures regularly at the University of Malta, and has delivered occasional lectures on a number of business subjects including business planning, management, marketing, strategy development, finance, and personnel management.

Mr Vassallo graduated in accountancy at the Malta Institute of Accountants and later obtained his CPA warrant. He has worked at the Central Bank of Malta for the past 16 years and has gained considerable experience in financial markets and the audit and risk management thereof. He completed his post graduated degree in Finance (with distinction) at University of Leicester, and has lectured advanced corporate reporting and corporate finance for the past five years. He has also been involved in training and consultancy on financial accounting matters with a number of leading institutions.

Ms. Vassallo completed her banking studies (ACIB) with the Chartered Institute of Bankers (UK) and moved on to obtain her accountancy degree with the Malta Institute of Accountants together with a practising warrant. Her career at the Bank of Valletta extends over the past 20 years during which she gained relevant experience in corporate lending, private banking, trade finance, treasury operations and risk management. This led her to further her studies in finance of international trade by obtaining international certification (CDCS) through the Chartered Institute of Bankers (UK). Her move into financial markets then encouraged her to read for a Masters degree in finance which she completed with distinction through University of Leicester. She has held various lecturing posts in the past and her area of expertise centres around the world of finance and risk management.

Ms. Margaret Vassallo

Alfred has been involved with some of the top players within the hospitality industry.  These mainly range in the Maritim Hotelgessellschaft GmbH; Accor SA; and Corinthia Hotels International Ltd; the involvement was in financial controller and general management. In addition Alfred has held the post of Accountant with various SMEs and today holds the post of Finance Director. Alfred is keen on change and the implementation of such in the course of continuous improvement of the organization.
He is a strong believer in life long learning.  He carries on with his research in strategy, innovation and the local tourism industry.
Currently he is reading for a doctorate in business administration with the thesis entitled “How Malta can rejuvenate its Tourism Industry through Innovation.”  Todate he has been conferred with an MPhil from Maastricht School of Management, an MBA from Brunel University.  In addition Alfred is a CPA warrant holder and a fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants.
For the past ten years, Alfred has been involved in lecturing Foundations of Management. He has also lectured for the Employment and Training Corporation with a finance module.
