Entry requirementsNormally either a first or second class honours degree or an equivalent professional qualification and/or appropriate practical experience. Course aimsTo provide a working knowledge of the EU’s Institutional framework, including the legislative process and the judicial system; To develop an understanding of economic and political integration; To offer a broad choice of specialist modules that reflect current academic and professional discourse; To enable coherent understanding of the relationship between the commercial, social and political aims of the EU. Course modulesIn order to achieve the award of Postgraduate Certificate in European Union Law students must chose to study either Module One and Module Two of the LLM programme or alternatively select two subject areas from Module Three and a further two subjects from Module Four. Module Titles:Module 1: Institutional Structure and Constitutional Governance in the European Union Module 2: Economic Governance and the Internal Market Module 3 Options: Pool 1 - Choose 2 out of 5: • EU Competition Law (C) • European Family Law (S) • EU Employment Law (S) • Regulation of Banking and Financial Services in the EU (C) • EU Public Procurement Law(C) Module 4 Options: Pool 2 - Choose 2 out of 5: • EU Company Law (C) • Regulation of Intellectual Property Rights in the EU (C) • Consumer Law (C, S) • EU Social Security Law (S) • EU Environmental Law and Policy (C, S) C= Commercial Module S= Social law and policy module Teaching and assessment methodsThe programme is taught by distance learning combined with short residential courses. All modules are assessed by written coursework. Students are also able to access ongoing study support over the telephone, by e-mail or fax by directing enquiries through the Course Administrator.
