Courses - Tourism and Hospitality


The Diploma in Tourism Management is designed to provide candidates with a broad perspective and understanding of the operational aspects of the international tourism industry.
The qualification enables candidates to gather a detailed knowledge of the history and understanding of the different aspects of the tourism industry including a geographical knowledge of key tourist regions and destinations of special interest, as well as gaining an understanding of the economic, government and ethical impacts of tourism and destination planning.

The qualification prepares candidates for supervisory and management roles within the tourism industry by ensuring candidates have a good working knowledge of the roles, responsibilities and operations of travel agents and tour guides and prepares candidates for managing tourism programmes through destination analysis and planning.

The qualifications also enables candidates to develop wider transferrable skills need at supervisory and management levels such as computing, I.T. marketing, finance, leadership, team building and an understanding of health and safety issues.
This Diploma has been devised on the basis that students will attend a course of study of not less than 450 hours. Private study will be required over and above this figure.

Candidates who successfully achieve the Diploma in Tourism Management can progress onto the Advanced Diploma in Tourism Management or the Advanced Diploma in Hotel Management. These qualifications are recognised by universities for entrance onto the third year of university hospitality and tourism degree programmes.

As an alternative to the university route The Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality also now provides a Post Graduate Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management (MQF Level 7).

 

Study Support

All students studying the Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Postgraduate Diploma are required to become student members of CTH.
